Day 13/30

It’s no surprise that my legs got so sore from 10km walk yesterday. So I basically just chill today. Went round to the Palms just to visit the place. Not much has changed. Didn’t buy anything.

I’m starting to think that this trip really is a trip away from human being lol Had a solitary two and a half hour walk at Bottle Lake Forest park today. Lemme tell ya, it was a walk of solitude all right. There was no other walker/jogger around as I got deeper into the forest. Then I freaked out a little because all you could see were endless rows of trees and it got a bit claustrophobic. The sky was overcast and it looked like it was going to rain. There was no service on my phone for the second half of my walk. So I panicked! Luckily though I did stop by the info center to grab a map before the walk. That’s how I found my way out of the woods lol (was not laughing in that moment)

Sorry guys. I just can’t get enough of big trees, can I? Gotta make the most of them while I can.  Here are more trees for ya.

Day 11/30

A fine, fine day worth going out and exploring. Though a bit chilly in the wind but a completely different weather from yesterday. So I took a walk around Riccarton/Fendalton Rd hoping to find that pretty inner street I saw on the way back from Mona Vale and Riccarton house the other day. But I walked for hours and couldn’t find it lol what a shame. Oh well… though I did take a quick walk in the Dean’s Bush and got some good shots of trees and nature.

The weather is not so kind today. A bit too cold, wet and dull to push our luck for a lovely day out. So it’s going to be a day to spend cozying up inside. Got quickly shown around Sumner beach and checked out the surf there though. Massive waves were coming in and the gustily wind made it very attractive for a dozen of surfers we saw trying to catch waves down there. All in all a good chilax day.

I’d like to dedicate this post to the people who had at one point in their life lived in the city of Christchurch. The city today doesn’t have the same vibe that it did years before the earthquake. Buildings were demolished, pulled down and businesses relocated in almost every corner of the city centre. The library I used to love going to is gone. What once was no longer stands. And that was the hardest part for me. I couldn’t bring myself to accept the drastic change – the unrecognisable and unfamiliar- even though friends did warn me of the stage that it is in.

Tear started welling up in my eyes as I was walking around for no apparent reason. I think I was overcome with emotion I never knew was there in the first place. The longing for the old days – to relive the memory I once cherished so much – is unsatisfied. I’m still stuck in the 2005 version of CHCH. Coming back to the 2017 upgraded and renewed naturally felt unsettling.

Note to self: Do not ever book a flight or make any kind of reservation during early hour of the morning! Because you might just misspell your name or muck up your email address like I did lol.

Flying to my first home in NZ 🙂 So much history went down at this place – friendship, love, heartache, family and a lot of growing up done. Hello Christchurch, here I come!
